Joaquin Rene Charles, MD

About Joaquin Rene

Dr. Charles was a Recipient of the UCSF Family Medicine Educational Alliance's Award for Excellence in Educational Collaboration at the 2023 UCSF FCM Rodnick Colloquium and has been an advocate for policy towards the protections for breastfeeding mothers and infants exposed to pesticides across California. He coauthored a CAFP resolution to extend of SDI benefits to breastfeeding women exposed to pesticides in the workplace for up to 6 months after childbirth and co-founded an Advisory Committee on Environmental Exposure for Farmworkers in Pregnancy and Postpartum. Prior to and during his studies, Dr. Charles was an accomplished contractor, and enjoyed remodeling and building homes specializing in landscaping, masonry, roofing, electrical, and tile work.

Educational Background

Dr. Charles received his Medical Degree from Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico and performed Clinical Rotations at Community Hospital Health Associates, Las Vegas, Nevada. He finished his Family Medicine Residency at Natividad Family Medicine Residency Program in Salinas, CA and his Bachelor of Science in Biology and Environmental Studies - University of California at Santa Cruz, CA.
