“My parents both came from migrant families and…have been a great inspiration to me. I wanted to practice with a rural migrant population because of my background. The way my patients and their families express their appreciation for my care never ceases to amaze me; they make me feel special. When my son was diagnosed with leukemia, my community, my church, my hospital coworkers and my patients all stepped forward to support my family through difficult times. Sometimes when I see a patient the first thing they say is ‘Doctor, how is your son doing?’”
