During your stay, only a few personal items are needed, such as deodorant, toothbrush, shampoo, robe and slippers. Glasses or dentures must be in appropriately labeled storage containers. No electric appliances may be brought into the hospital without prior approval from administration.
We strongly suggest you leave valuables at home. The hospital is not responsible for valuables or money kept in your room.
As a patient you have a right to make healthcare decisions and to have the doctors and medical team caring for you to know and honor your decisions. An advance directive can protect this right if you ever become mentally or physically unable to choose or communicate your wishes due to an injury or illness.
There are several benefits to having an advance directive:
The Patient Self-Determination Act and the Healthcare Decision Law require hospitals to ask all admitted patients whether they have completed an Advance Directive. This document communicates your wishes regarding treatment in the event you are unable to speak for yourself. You may change any portion of the Power of Attorney for Healthcare by telling your physician about your new decisions or wishes.
Your doctor will determine your discharge date, and when it is time your doctor, nurse and other member of the healthcare team will help you draft a plan for care once you are discharged.
If you will require special services, nursing, therapy or equipment such as a bed or oxygen, a caseworker may be called in to help you make arrangements. They are also able to help you with paperwork.
The hospital pharmacy does not provide take-home medications. Prescriptions for medications to be taken at home can be filled at the pharmacy of your choice.
